A majestic 350-year-old Valley Oak that has witnessed the evolution of land use from Ohlone times to modern development.
This ancient Valley Oak was already mature when the Christopher Meyerholtz family settled the area in the 1880s, planting 60 acres with peaches, apricots, and almonds. The property changed hands through Louis Beroni in the 1920s to Salvatore Cala in 1946. When the Cala Shopping Center was developed in the early 1980s, the City mandated that the complex design retain this historic tree, recognizing its aesthetic and historical value.
Represents the continuity of natural heritage through dramatic changes in land use, from providing food for Ohlone Indians to shading orchardists to serving as a focal point in modern commercial development.
Designated Sunnyvale heritage tree in 1985, preserved within Cala Shopping Center.
Located within Cala Shopping Center at El Camino Real, accessible to public.
