Pair of sycamores marking the entrance to what was once the world's largest cherry orchard.
These ornamental sycamores were planted by Lester E. Bocks at the entrance to his portion of the family's 50-acre farm. His father C.O. Bocks was known as 'The Cherry King' for operating the world's largest cherry orchard. After C.O.'s death, the estate was divided between sons Lester and Charles. Lester cultivated pears, apricots, walnuts, and later cherries, along with strawberries and truck gardening. The family sold the property for subdivision in 1964.
These trees are the sole remaining evidence of one of Sunnyvale's most successful agricultural operations and represent the transition from farming to suburban development.
